About the Author
Francis Xavier Murphy is a Redemptorist theologian and historian who has served as parish priest, military chaplain, a peritus or expert at Vatican Council II, and professor of moral theology at the Academia Alfonsiana in Rome. Currently in retirement at St. Mary's Redemptorist Rectory in Annapolis, Maryland, he is the author of twenty books including A Life of Pope John XXIII, Fighting Admiral: the Life of Dan Callaghan, A Monument to St. Jerome, Peter Speaks Through Leo, Politics and the Early Christian, The Papacy Today, and Vatican Council II (1968) a compendium of the four volumes covering the Council for the New Yorker under the pseudonym Xavier Rynne.
